It gives me great pleasure to present to you the 4th FINA World Aquatics Convention, to be held 3-5 December 2016 in Windsor, Ontario.
2016 is an exciting year. The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro provides Aquatics with the greatest platform on which to showcase our incredible sport and continue to increase global engagement. It is a significant opportunity for us to reaffirm FINA as a key pillar of the Olympic movement – a position we have all worked so hard to secure.
The Convention provides the perfect occasion to reflect on Aquatics performance and share best practice from the year. Uniting the international Aquatics family, I look forward to working with you all and exploring innovative ways in which to develop our sport.
The 2014 event saw a record number of 900+ athletes, coaches, National Federations, and commercial organisations congregate in Doha. The success of previous Conventions is set to continue at Windsor in 2016 and we are very excited to be bringing the event to North America, a continent that holds a deep passion for our sport.
Once again, the Convention is being organised in conjunction with our main sporting event of the year, the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), scheduled for 6-11 December, also in Windsor.
The timing and location of both events provides Convention delegates with unique access to as many as 1,500 elite athletes, coaches, team managers and team doctors, and I hope that a record number of you will join us for this Festival of Aquatics.
On FINA’s behalf, I would like to thank all the delegates, lecturers, exhibitors, partners, suppliers, organisers and bidders involved with FINA events, all the members of the IOC and the FINA family for their active support in the realisation of the Convention.
I extend a warm invitation to you all to attend the 4th FINA World Aquatics Convention. Your presence makes our sport stronger.
Dr. Julio C. Maglione
